Minister responsible for the application of professional legislation
The Minister responsible for the application of professional legislation is named by means of an Order-in-Council of the Québec cabinet. The Minister of Justice has assumed this responsibility for several years now.
The Minister reports to Québec’s National Assembly on the operations and evolution of the professional system. He or she makes decisions on general and specific policy concerning the system, appoints certain officials and members of the Office des professions du Québec, and is responsible for this body’s budget planning process.
The Minister sponsors and presents draft legislation and some draft regulations regarding the professional system.
The Minister may intervene in problematic situations, for example, by authorizing the investigation of a professional order or recommending to the government that a professional order be placed under supervised administration.
